It is a series created by the young people at Kramer Middle School. It is a series designed to tackle everyday issues the young people face, and shows how to overcome obstacles victoriously, despite the odds.

Soaring Through Trauma

12 at-risk youth in Washington DC produce and star in the documentary. The documentary tells their personal stories of how gun violence has impacted their lives in hopes to inspire change in the District. The youth are a part of S.O.A.R project DC, a non-profit gun violence prevention program. S.O.A.R project was awarded a grant through Mayor Muriel Bowser's building blocks initiative to work with youth to produce a multimedia project. In 4 weeks, youth were trained in multimedia skills by a media professional and worked together to produce the documentary.

Search for the dream school

The short film opens with images of 11th Grade Student and Ward 7 resident, Daria Strachan, atop the Hollywood sign and sharing her dream to study visual arts and film and ultimately becoming an animator or showrunner, but quickly turns to her need to do one thing first: find a dream school that will support her ambitious goals. With images reflecting the overwhelming nature of this tasks interspersed, the film documents Daria's recent visits to schools in her hometown of DC, New York and Atlanta, including Howard, NYU, and Spelman. But even when focused on a dream, as the film reflects, a journey is often filled with interesting sites -- and delicious bites!
