Game Studio Pilot Program

CALLING YOUTH GAME DESIGNERS!

Anacostia Youth Media, in collaboration with Covenant House, is excited to launch the Game Studio Pilot Program! This program is designed to give Washington, DC youth an opportunity to explore coding, game design, and the creative process behind developing a video game—all while working collaboratively in a studio setting.

Program Highlights:

Who Can Apply: We are recruiting 3-4 youth from Washington, DC, to join this innovative program.

Program Dates: The program will run for six weeks, from February 26th, 2025, to April 2nd, 2025.

Schedule: Sessions will be held on Wednesday evenings, from 4/4:30 PM to 8 PM. Each session includes:

  • Instruction on coding and game design.

  • Work time to apply what you've learned to the project.

  • A brief snack break to recharge.

What You’ll Do: Together, we’ll establish a game studio (we’ll even name it as a team!) and collaborate to design and build a short, playable game.

About AYM:

Anacostia Youth Media is dedicated to uplifting the voices of DC youth, with programming focused on various forms of media. AYM hosts a yearly festival and runs events year-round, with a focus on empowering youth in Wards 7 and 8 through creative expression.

This program is your chance to explore the world of coding and gaming while contributing to a larger movement that amplifies DC youth voices. No prior experience is needed—just bring your creativity, passion, and willingness to learn!

Meet the Instructor

  • Kristen Marcinek

    GAME DESIGNER

    Kristen Marcinek is a game designer passionate about providing non-traditional educational experiences and accurately representing intersectional and marginalized lenses that are grounded in tangible realities. Kristen is currently a student at American University working towards her MFA in Games and Interactive Media with a focus on meaningful games and immersive experiences. Kristen has experience in many areas of game design, including writing, pixel art, and coding.
